Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about lookd and AI brand monitoring.

lookd is a SaaS platform that helps you monitor and improve your brand's visibility across AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. It tracks what AI says about your brand, analyzes sentiment and positioning, and provides actionable recommendations to improve your AI presence.

lookd sends prompts (search queries relevant to your business) to multiple AI models simultaneously with web search enabled. It then analyzes every response for brand mentions, sentiment, positioning, share of voice, and citations. Based on this data, it generates actionable recommendations to improve how AI represents your brand.

lookd monitors three major AI providers: ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), and Perplexity. Within each provider there are multiple model options — for example GPT-5.2, GPT-5-Mini, Claude Haiku 4.5, Claude Sonnet, Sonar, and Sonar Pro. Each model is queried with web search enabled to get the most up-to-date responses.

Sign up for a free account and create your first brand during onboarding. You'll enter your brand name, website, industry, target audience, and location. lookd then auto-generates relevant prompts to track based on your brand profile. You can start running scans immediately to see what AI says about your brand.

GEO (also called AEO — Answer Engine Optimization) is the practice of optimizing your brand's presence in AI-generated responses. Similar to how SEO helps you rank in search engines, GEO helps you get mentioned favorably when people ask AI assistants for recommendations. lookd is built specifically for this emerging field.

lookd is built for marketing teams, brand managers, agencies, and business owners who want to understand and improve how AI assistants represent their brand. It works for companies of all sizes across industries like SaaS, e-commerce, healthcare, finance, hospitality, and local businesses.

More and more consumers are turning to AI assistants instead of traditional search engines for product recommendations and research. If AI doesn't mention your brand — or describes it negatively — you're losing potential customers. lookd helps you understand and improve your brand's position in this new channel before your competitors do.

SEO focuses on ranking in traditional search engine results pages. GEO focuses on getting your brand mentioned, recommended, and accurately described in AI-generated responses. While both benefit from quality content and strong online presence, GEO requires understanding how AI models aggregate and summarize information from multiple sources — and that's exactly what lookd reveals.

During onboarding you'll provide your brand name, a short description, website URL, industry, customer type (B2B, B2C, or both), market reach (local to international), language, and location. This information helps lookd auto-generate relevant prompts and tailor analysis to your specific market.

You'll see your first AI visibility data within minutes of running your first scan. Each scan queries multiple AI models simultaneously and delivers full analysis — including sentiment, positioning, and citations — as soon as responses are processed. Tracking trends over time takes a few weeks of regular scanning.

Not at all. lookd is designed for marketers and business owners, not engineers. The interface guides you through setup, auto-generates prompts based on your brand profile, and presents insights in clear, visual dashboards. You don't need to understand AI, APIs, or prompt engineering — lookd handles all of that for you.

Yes, and the shift is accelerating. Millions of users now ask ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity for product recommendations, service comparisons, and buying advice instead of searching Google. Unlike traditional search where you see ten blue links, AI gives a single synthesized answer — and if your brand isn't in it, you're invisible to that user.

Most monitoring tools track social media, news, or traditional search rankings. lookd is purpose-built for AI visibility — it queries actual AI models with real prompts your customers would ask, analyzes the responses for your brand, and tells you exactly how to improve. No other tool gives you this level of insight into what ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity say about you.

You could, but you'd be getting a single snapshot from one model with one query. lookd runs dozens of different prompts across multiple AI providers simultaneously, analyzes every response systematically, tracks changes over time, and compares you against competitors. What would take hours of manual testing, lookd does in minutes — with structured data you can act on.

Different AI models often say very different things about the same brand. ChatGPT might recommend you while Claude doesn't mention you at all. Perplexity might cite different sources entirely. lookd reveals these discrepancies so you can understand the full picture and target your optimization efforts where they'll have the most impact.

Without web search, AI models rely on their training data which can be months or years old. By enabling web search for every query, lookd ensures responses reflect what AI would tell your customers right now — including your latest press coverage, reviews, and content. This gives you an accurate, real-time view of your AI visibility.

lookd goes beyond dashboards. It analyzes your AI visibility data and generates specific, prioritized action plans — things like "create a comparison page against competitor X" or "get listed on these three review platforms." Each recommendation includes effort level, expected impact, and time estimates so you know exactly where to focus.

lookd tracks your competitors alongside your brand in every AI response. You'll see exactly where competitors get mentioned and you don't, which prompts they dominate, and how their sentiment compares to yours. This competitive intelligence reveals specific gaps and opportunities you can act on before competitors realize they're visible and you're not.

Yes — this is one of lookd's most valuable capabilities. Every response is scored for factual accuracy, and specific inaccuracies are flagged. If ChatGPT says your company was founded in the wrong year, claims you don't offer a feature you do, or misrepresents your pricing, lookd catches it. You can then take steps to correct the source content that AI models are referencing.

AI models cite specific websites when generating recommendations. lookd tracks which sources each AI provider trusts and references. By understanding which sites influence AI responses — review platforms, comparison blogs, industry directories — you can strategically build your presence on those sources to improve how AI represents your brand.

As AI assistants replace traditional search for product research and recommendations, brands that are mentioned favorably capture demand that others miss entirely. Unlike SEO where you compete for clicks among ten results, AI gives one answer — and being included or excluded is the difference between capturing or losing that customer. lookd helps you get and stay in that answer.

It's actually the perfect time. Most brands haven't started monitoring their AI visibility yet, which means early movers have a significant advantage. The brands that understand and optimize their AI presence now will be the ones AI recommends by default as these platforms grow. lookd gives you that head start.

In traditional search, you compete for position on a results page. In AI, you compete for how you're described in a synthesized answer. It's not just whether AI mentions you — it's whether it says "industry leader" or "has mixed reviews." lookd tracks sentiment across every mention so you can ensure AI paints an accurate, positive picture of your brand.

Most brands are shocked by what they discover: AI might not mention them at all for their core product category, might recommend competitors instead, might cite outdated information, or might describe them inaccurately. lookd reveals these blind spots across multiple AI providers and query types — things you'd never find without systematic monitoring.

In traditional media, share of voice is about ad spend and coverage volume. In AI, it's about which brand the model actually recommends when a customer asks. If your share of voice is low, it means AI is actively directing potential customers to your competitors. lookd quantifies this so you can fight for your fair share of AI recommendations.

lookd provides trend data across every metric — sentiment, position, share of voice, mentions, and accuracy — over time and across AI providers. After you implement recommendations (like publishing comparison content or getting listed on review sites), your next scans will show whether those changes improved how AI represents your brand. It's a measurable feedback loop.

When ChatGPT recommends you but Claude doesn't, or Perplexity rates you highly while others don't, it reveals which sources each provider trusts. lookd's provider disagreement analysis helps you understand these patterns so you can target the content and platforms that influence each specific AI model.

Agencies use lookd to offer a new, high-value service: AI visibility management. With the Agency plan, they can manage up to 10 client brands independently, share dashboards with clients via viewer access, and demonstrate clear ROI through trending metrics. It's a new revenue stream built on a channel most clients don't yet understand.

SaaS companies use lookd to monitor how AI recommends their software in competitive categories like "best project management tool" or "top CRM for startups." They track whether AI mentions their product, how it's positioned against competitors, and what features AI highlights. This guides content strategy, comparison pages, and review site presence.

E-commerce brands track how AI recommends their products in discovery queries like "best running shoes for beginners" or "sustainable fashion brands." lookd reveals whether AI mentions their brand, what price points and features it associates with them, and which competitor products are recommended instead — helping them optimize product pages and review presence.

Absolutely. When someone asks AI "best Italian restaurant in [city]" or "reliable plumber near me," AI gives specific recommendations. lookd helps local businesses monitor whether they appear in these responses, how they're described, and what sources AI cites. With location-aware brand profiles, lookd generates prompts specific to your local market.

Healthcare providers and health tech companies use lookd to monitor how AI describes their services, whether treatment information is accurate, and how they're positioned against competitors. Accuracy scoring is especially critical in healthcare — if AI shares incorrect information about your services, it could mislead patients and damage trust.

Yes. Financial services companies use lookd to track how AI recommends their products in queries like "best savings account" or "top investment platforms." They also use accuracy scoring to catch AI misinformation about fees, rates, or services — which in finance can have regulatory implications.

Agencies use lookd to manage AI visibility across their entire client portfolio. With the Agency plan, they can onboard up to 10 client brands, each with independent prompts, competitors, and analysis. Client teams get viewer access to their own dashboards. Agencies report on AI visibility metrics alongside traditional marketing KPIs, offering a differentiated service.

B2B buyers increasingly use AI to research vendors, compare solutions, and shortlist providers. lookd helps B2B companies monitor queries like "best enterprise ERP systems" or "top HR software for mid-market." Since B2B deals are high-value, being included or excluded from an AI recommendation can mean winning or losing significant contracts.

Hospitality businesses use lookd to track how AI responds to queries like "best hotels in Barcelona" or "romantic dinner spots in Chicago." They monitor whether AI cites their TripAdvisor or Google reviews, how their rating is described, and whether competitors are recommended instead. This guides their review strategy and online presence.

Yes. Consultants, thought leaders, and public figures use lookd to track how AI describes their expertise, what it says about their background, and whether it recommends them in relevant queries. Personal brand accuracy is especially important — you want AI to correctly represent your credentials and specializations.

Yes. lookd's accuracy scoring and sentiment tracking reveal when AI is spreading inaccurate or negative information about your brand. By identifying which sources AI cites for negative claims, you can address the root cause — updating outdated content, responding to reviews, or publishing clarifications that AI models will pick up in future responses.

Yes. You can create prompts for your new product category and start scanning before launch to understand the competitive landscape. After launch, track whether AI starts mentioning your product, how quickly visibility grows, and whether your positioning is accurate. It's like tracking search rankings for a new product, but for AI.

lookd supports 19 languages and location-aware brand profiles. You can create separate brands for each market — for example, one for your German market and another for your French market — each with localized prompts and competitor sets. This reveals how AI represents you in each language and region, which can vary significantly.

lookd reveals exactly what AI says and cites when discussing your brand and industry. If AI consistently cites a competitor's blog but not yours, you know to create similar content. If AI mentions your competitor's feature comparison page, you know to build one too. Citation tracking turns abstract "content strategy" into specific, data-driven actions.

Prompts are the search queries or questions that lookd sends to AI models on your behalf. For example, "best CRM software for startups" or "top restaurants in downtown Seattle." lookd can auto-suggest relevant prompts based on your industry and brand profile, or you can create custom ones.

When you create a brand, lookd uses AI to analyze your industry, description, and target audience to generate relevant prompts that potential customers might ask AI assistants. These suggestions cover different query types — comparisons, recommendations, and informational queries — to give you broad visibility coverage.

Actions are AI-generated recommendations for improving your brand's visibility in AI responses. They include specific steps like creating comparison content, improving technical SEO, building citations on review platforms, and engaging in relevant communities. Each action includes effort level, expected impact, and time estimates so you can prioritize effectively.

Yes. You can add competitor brands linked to each of your managed brands. lookd analyzes how competitors are mentioned alongside your brand in AI responses. You'll see side-by-side sentiment scores, share of voice comparisons, co-occurrence patterns, and identify specific queries where competitors appear but you don't.

lookd analyzes the tone and context of every AI mention of your brand, scoring it from 0 to 100. Scores are labeled as negative, neutral, or positive. You can track how sentiment changes over time, compare it across different AI models, and see exactly which responses contribute to your score.

Share of voice measures how prominently your brand is mentioned relative to competitors in AI responses. A score of 0-100 indicates the percentage of "airtime" your brand receives. lookd tracks share of voice per prompt and across your entire portfolio so you can see where you dominate and where competitors outperform you.

Brand position indicates where in the AI response your brand appears — for example, first, second, or third in a list of recommendations. Being mentioned earlier typically signals stronger AI confidence in your brand. lookd tracks position across models and over time to help you measure improvement.

When AI models cite sources in their responses, lookd tracks which URLs are referenced and whether they mention your brand. This helps you identify which websites and content influence AI recommendations, so you can focus your content strategy and link-building on the sources that matter most.

lookd provides a comprehensive statistics dashboard with over 15 visualizations including visibility timelines, sentiment drift analysis, share of voice breakdowns, citation treemaps, provider disagreement grids, competitive battleground charts, topic radar maps, position distributions, and more. These help you spot trends and opportunities at a glance.

lookd evaluates whether the information AI models share about your brand is factually correct. Each response gets an accuracy score, and any inaccuracies are flagged with specific details about what was wrong. This helps you identify and address misinformation that AI models may be spreading about your brand.

Yes. lookd supports team collaboration with role-based access. Brand owners can invite team members by email as editors (who can run scans, edit brand settings, and manage prompts) or viewers (read-only access to data and reports). The number of collaborators per brand depends on your plan — from 1 on Free to 20 on Agency.

There are three roles: Owner (full control including sharing and deletion), Editor (can run scans, edit brand settings, manage prompts, and add competitors), and Viewer (read-only access to all data and the ability to run individual prompts). Each role is designed to match common team workflows.

lookd supports 19 languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Turkish, and Hindi. When a brand is set to a non-English language, prompts are sent in that language and AI responses are analyzed accordingly.

Yes. Depending on your plan, you can manage between 1 and 10 brands. Each brand has its own prompts, competitors, and analysis. This is ideal for agencies managing client portfolios or companies with multiple product lines. You can switch between brands instantly from the dashboard.

lookd classifies prompts into several types: ranking queries ("best CRM software"), comparison queries ("Salesforce vs HubSpot"), informational queries ("what is CRM"), discovery queries ("CRM tools for small businesses"), and reputation queries ("is Salesforce reliable"). Each type reveals different aspects of your AI visibility.

Brand perception aggregates data from all your AI responses to build a comprehensive picture of how AI models view your brand. It includes overall sentiment trends, common themes and topics associated with your brand, accuracy patterns, and how your perception compares across different AI providers.

Yes. lookd runs every prompt across all three AI providers simultaneously and lets you compare results side by side. You can see which providers mention your brand more frequently, which give higher sentiment scores, and where provider opinions diverge — helping you target improvement efforts where they matter most.

Memory gap analysis identifies prompts where AI models should mention your brand but don't. These are your biggest opportunities — queries where your competitors are visible and you're not. lookd highlights these gaps so you can prioritize the content and visibility strategies that will have the most impact.

The topic radar visualizes which subjects and themes AI associates with your brand across all responses. It helps you understand whether AI correctly identifies your key differentiators and product categories, or whether it's missing important aspects of your business.

The competitive battleground shows a head-to-head comparison of your brand versus competitors across key metrics — who gets mentioned more, who has better sentiment, who ranks higher in position. It reveals exactly where you're winning and where you're losing the AI recommendation battle.

Yes. The visibility timeline shows how your brand's key metrics — mentions, sentiment, position, and share of voice — change over time across all AI providers. This is essential for measuring whether your GEO efforts are working and demonstrating ROI to stakeholders.

The citation treemap visualizes all the sources that AI models cite when discussing your brand and industry. Larger blocks represent more frequently cited sources. This reveals which websites and platforms have the most influence over AI recommendations — and where you should focus your content and presence strategy.

The free plan includes 1 brand, 3 prompts, and 3 scans per month with 1 collaborator per brand. It's designed to let you experience lookd and see real data before upgrading. You get full analysis across all AI models for every scan — no features are locked behind paid tiers.

A scan runs all your active prompts across all AI models simultaneously. One scan uses one scan credit regardless of how many prompts or models are involved. For example, if you have 10 prompts, one scan will query all 10 across ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity — that's just one scan credit.

If you reach your prompt or scan limit, you'll be prompted to upgrade to a higher plan. Your existing data and analysis remain fully accessible — you just can't create new prompts or run additional scans until you upgrade or your monthly allowance resets.

Yes. The Agency plan supports up to 10 brands with 200 prompts and 20 collaborators per brand, making it ideal for agencies managing multiple client accounts. Each brand is fully independent with its own prompts, competitors, and analysis, and you can invite client team members with viewer access.

All plans include the same analysis features — sentiment scoring, citation tracking, accuracy evaluation, and action recommendations. The difference is scale: paid plans let you monitor more brands, track more prompts, run more scans per month, and invite more collaborators. There are no features locked behind a paywall.

Start with Free to see lookd in action. Upgrade to Starter ($39/month) if you need more prompts and brands for a single business. Pro ($99/month) is ideal for businesses tracking multiple product lines or market segments. Agency ($249/month) is designed for agencies or large teams managing many brands with client collaboration.

Your data is stored securely in Supabase (built on PostgreSQL) with row-level security policies that ensure data isolation between accounts. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest. Your brand data, prompt results, and analysis are only accessible to you and team members you've explicitly invited.

When lookd sends prompts to AI models, it sends only the search query — not your brand name, competitor information, or analysis data. AI providers process these as standard API requests and don't associate them with your lookd account. Your strategic brand monitoring data stays private.

Yes. lookd uses Supabase row-level security (RLS) policies to enforce strict data isolation. Every database query is automatically scoped to your user account. Even team collaborators only see brands that have been explicitly shared with them by the brand owner.

We take privacy seriously and design our systems with data protection in mind. lookd collects minimal personal data (email and name for your account) and you can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. We do not sell or share personal data with third parties.

Yes, you can delete your account from the Account settings page. This permanently removes your profile, all brands, prompts, responses, analysis data, and collaborator records. This action is irreversible, so make sure to export any data you need before deleting.

Your scan results and analysis data are retained for as long as your account is active. Historical data is valuable for tracking trends over time, so we don't automatically delete old results. If you delete your account, all data is permanently removed.

No. We do not sell, share, or provide your brand data, analysis results, or strategic insights to any third party. The only external services that process your data are the AI providers (for running prompts) and Stripe (for payment processing), both under strict data processing agreements.

Collaborators are invited by email and must create a lookd account to access shared brands. Access is controlled through role-based permissions (owner, editor, viewer) enforced at both the application and database level. Brand owners can revoke access at any time.

No. Your monitoring strategy, prompt selections, analysis results, and action plans are completely private. Even if a competitor also uses lookd, there is zero data sharing between accounts. Your AI visibility intelligence is your competitive advantage — we keep it that way.

Yes. lookd queries each AI model with web search enabled so responses reflect the most current information available online, not just the model's training data. This gives you the most accurate picture of how AI currently represents your brand based on real-time web content.

The number of scans per month depends on your plan: 3 for Free, and 8 for Starter, Pro, and Agency. Each scan runs all your active prompts across all AI models simultaneously. We recommend weekly scans to track trends and measure the impact of your optimization efforts.

lookd uses advanced AI to analyze responses for brand mentions, sentiment, positioning, and citations. The analysis is highly accurate for factual elements (mentions, position, citations) and provides reliable sentiment scoring. All raw AI responses are preserved so you can verify any analysis yourself.

Each AI response is analyzed for multiple dimensions: whether your brand is mentioned, where it appears in the response, the exact context and sentence, overall sentiment (0-100), share of voice relative to competitors, factual accuracy, topics covered, and all cited sources. This multi-dimensional analysis gives you a complete picture of each response.

Yes. Each AI provider offers multiple models — for example, OpenAI has GPT-5.2, GPT-5-Mini, and others. You can select which model to use for each provider when running scans. Different models may give different results, so this helps you understand the full landscape of AI-generated brand mentions.

Yes. lookd stores the complete raw response from every AI model alongside the analyzed metrics. You can view the full response text at any time to verify the analysis, read the exact context of your brand mentions, and see the original citations provided by each AI model.

lookd currently works as a standalone platform with a full-featured dashboard. API access and integrations with tools like Slack, Google Sheets, and marketing platforms are on our roadmap for future releases.

lookd works in all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. The dashboard is fully responsive and works on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Data export functionality is on our roadmap. Currently you can view all your scan results, analysis, and recommendations directly in the lookd dashboard with full historical access going back to your first scan.

A typical scan completes within a few minutes. lookd queries all AI models in parallel for each prompt, then runs analysis on the responses. The exact time depends on how many prompts you have and current AI provider response times.

lookd is built on reliable infrastructure including Vercel for hosting and Supabase for the database. While we don't currently offer a formal SLA, we monitor our systems continuously and aim for maximum availability. Scan scheduling ensures your data collection continues even during brief maintenance windows.

AI models are non-deterministic — they can give different answers to the same question. Additionally, web search results change as new content is published. This natural variation is actually valuable: lookd captures it over time so you can distinguish real trends from random fluctuation. Consistent scanning builds a reliable picture of your AI visibility.

The best prompts mirror what your real customers would ask an AI assistant. Think about the questions people ask before buying your product or service: "best [category] for [audience]", "[your brand] vs [competitor]", "is [your brand] worth it." lookd's auto-suggestions are a great starting point, and you can add custom prompts based on your market knowledge.
